Design & Renovation of a 1911 Altadena Home
:: Presenting Casa Altadena ::
This young family bought a charming 1911 Altadena home that had amazing bones and inspiring gardens but desperately needed some interior design love. They asked 22 INTERIORS for help in creating rooms that tell their story. The family is lucky in that they inherited wonderful furniture that they wanted to incorporate into their new home, but wanted to do so without making the house look dated. It was a thrill to redesign this quintessentially Californian house using pieces of furniture with so much history and adding a sprinkle of new furniture, colorful rugs, and tons of bright pillows and fabrics into their ideal home.
The living room's giant modern metropolis mural sets a vibrant tone that we carefully balanced out with neutral fabrics and furniture.
22 INTERIORS carefully selected, framed, and curated all pieces of art in the home.
Layering antique books, toys, and sculptures to create a interesting coffee table landscape.
Knowing the Sunroom would be the central hub of the house, as this wonderful room truly connects the gorgeous gardens with the indoors, 22 INTERIORS wanted to make it as comfortable as possible. We built in deep and plus daybeds, layered on the pillows, and decorated the walls with the family's vibrant Day of the Dead collection.
Having a somewhat traditional dining room was important as the family loves the idea of formal dinners with family and friends. 22 INTERIORS was able to make the room both traditional with it's oval table, buffet table, and wooden chairs but create a warmth with colorful paintings, a kilim rug layered over a jute rug, and the unique camel skin chandelier.
This Pakistani camel skin chandelier is hand-painted and made from stretched camel-hide. It comes from the desert area of Sindh in Pakistan. The chandelier is not only unique and incredibly colorful, but it casts a beautiful soft light.
The twin girls' bedroom walls were painted a light blue walls and antique art work grace the twins' room walls.
The family's guest house was completely transformed into a Mexican Casita style home.
