Project complete - Santa Monica LEED Certified Townhouse
A very environmentally-conscious young couple purchased this LEED certified townhouse in Santa Monica and asked us to help with the design. Completed in 2012 and designed by renowned architect William Hefner, this townhouse has all the qualities we love - indoor/outdoor living, an open floor plan, and beautiful architectural details, like this staircase.
Starting with the entry - our clients love color and graffiti-like artwork. We accented the colors with a few accessories like the handmade aqua vase displaying branches.
Below is the dining area (with accordion doors that open up onto their front patio) flanked by a modern bookcase. Since the floors aren't hardwood, adding wood accents throughout was important to warm up the space and bring more organic elements in. We are BIG fans of the Canadian furniture line Huppe and we've sourced their Wolfgang chairs below before. Here, they are in a faux leather material that's incredibly durable and soft, in a wonderful charcoal color. The table has a glass top and expands for more seating. The LED SPUR chandelier brings wonderful light into their space and reminds me of branches, which I love.
Just in front of the dining area is the living area. Again, there are more doors that open out to the outdoors. TV is a Samsung Frame (it's SO SO GOOD ). The credenza holds a record player and some alcohol. Rug by Armadillo (one in every project at this point - love them). Stockholm sideboard by Punt and Ruiz.
The kitchen sits just next to living space and has views into back patio. We changed the wood finish on the cabinets from a darker brown to a brighter natural oak finish. We also changed all the hardware. We wanted to make this space feel brighter and our clients are thrilled with the result. Small Knot Pendants are by Vitamin lighting.
The back patio area was outfitted with comfy seating for two and a bbq. It's private and surrounded by green. A very relaxing spot for keeping an eye on the grill.
Our clients are lawyers by day, but a fabulous musical duo by night. They love music and making songs, so an at-home music studio was essential. We created one in what was the master bedroom. The sofa below is an American Leather pull out sofa (with a very comfortable temperpedic mattress for occasional guests). Their existing super fun music poster collection inspired the color scheme of black, white, and lots of fun candy-like colors.
To REALLY make this at-home music studio professional, we designed a custom music desk to hold all the equipment they need. It's finished in white and appears to be floating from the wall.
Moving along to the former guest room, now master. We opted for luxurious materials like the super plush Moroccan rug and a linen bedding by Coyuchi. All contrasted with a metal beam like lamps and gray walnut nightstand tables.
Finally, a Santa Monica modern townhouse could not be complete without the ultimate rooftop deck - a large umbrella, views of Palms, and extra comfortable outdoor lounging.
