S. TREMAINE : We are so thankful for one of our best before-and-after projects ever!
First of all - HAPPY THANKSGIVING ! We (Lucie, Larina, and Andrew) are so grateful for all of our clients and want to thank you for letting us transform your homes. This particular client (also a dear friend) called Lucie because he thought he might need a new sofa. Little did he know, he actually needed much more. After around six months of construction, that new sofa has quite the backdrop… presenting our S. Tremaine Project:
The kitchen was a small, narrow awkward space with outdated appliances and tile floors. Our original idea was to just open up one wall into the tv area/den, but then we realized removing ALL the walls in the kitchen would make the most sense.
The living and dining areas were connected, but the flow from the kitchen to either was clunky - different ceiling heights and an excess of wall space made the communal area feel smaller than it really was.
The room used as the den features the sofa our client wanted to replace. The conversation went similarly to:
”I’d like a new sofa, this one is uncomfortable.”
”Yes, the floors could use redoing.”
"Yes, perhaps the kitchen could use an upgrade.”
To, finally:
“Let’s see how much it costs."
We moved him into the guest house, and Lucie realized the potential immediately to transform this somewhat dingy space into something spectacular. For our screenwriter client, the backyard living quarters would make for an insane office space/writing den. We are so grateful he was down to transform EVERYTHING.
WELCOME TO THE NEW S. TREMAINE.
Our client now enjoys a new front door and gate, freshly painted exterior and trim, fabulously redone floors, the perfect window treatments, and a STUNNING open interior living space.
We completely gutted the kitchen, removed all surrounding walls, and created a beautiful, modern space that includes a waterfall counter and clean custom cabinets painted in Farrow & Ball's Pavillion Gray. The appliances are all Fischer & Peykel.
Simple Ann Sacks subway tile completes our look, and our new mantra is that no kitchen is complete without a touch activated faucet like this Delta Trinsic. Literally, you can touch the side of it with your elbow to turn it on and off - super cool.
Our design challenge was to figure out a way to hide the laundry and guest bath area from the kitchen and living area. A door wasn't an option because the lack of space, so we found a gorgeous linen fabric and hung it as a curtain to separate the two spaces.
Above is the new den. The TV is positioned on the opposite wall of where it used to be and half of the wall behind the sofa was removed. Combined with our favorite chunky braided wool rug, the pair really warm up the space, layered by two sets of drapes.
The ottoman is a 22 INTERIORS custom design.
We chose to remove the built in bookshelves and wood paneling that surrounded the fireplace and paint everything in Farrow & Ball's All White.
We are gaga for the handmade, hand-glazed, and hand-cut terra cotta Moroccan tile by Ann Sacks which were added to the hearth.
The painting leaning on the mantel is a family heirloom that really completes the room.
Next, we move on to the dining area. Our client had the bookcase custom built years ago, so we chose DWR's Cross Extension Dining Table in walnut to compliment it. The Geometric Tri-LED Pendant is handcrafted in New Zealand and really balances out the space with the perfect subtly. The bookshelves were styled by Lucie - one of her favorite things to do for clients (and a sneak peak into someone's book collection is fascinating!)
Look at that room!
Below is the master where we kept things very simple. Walls are BM Gray Owl. The bed and floating nightstands are from DWR’s Matera collection.
To complete the transformation, below is the guest house turned writer's office. New floors and the rolling library ladder made this space distinctive and stunning. We are jealous!
As always, thank you for looking.
ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY !
