Totes Cali : Royal Woods Mid-Century Renovation (before + after )
This project was the quintessential Los Angeles story. For this young, fabulous couple - he's a music writer of many hits you've all had stuck in your head, she's a healthy lifestyle coach - buying a house that needed some renovation was not enough to put on their plates. They also decided to get engaged and plan their wedding at the exact same time. I'm positive that they will always associate large slabs of marble with memories of guest lists and table settings. Anyway - it all turned out the way great stories do - and this couple and house live together happily ever after.
Here's the BEFORE picture slideshow:
We then redid the hardwood floors, gutted the kitchen, added a new layout with a counter bar at the dining end, added a pantry in front of that white brick wall, and left out the upper cabinets only adding walnut open shelves at the dining end of the kitchen.
We also redid the banquette - I thought making a floating seat would make the space feel more open and airy, as that was our goal.
Voila ! The AFTER slide show:
I love this transformation. It really is perfectly So-Cal.
