Our new house : the before walk through and the gems we found

We bought a house! A 1957 mid-century modern in the hills of Studio City. We love so many things about this house - the beautiful tree top views, the flat backyard, it's walking distance to the kids' school and super delicious restaurants, the street is a cul-de-sac , there's a Schindler House on the block, and many more.... We are the third owners ever, but the lovely woman who sold it to us was in the home since 1959.

We have GREAT plans and ideas for what we want to do, but of course, everything has to be done in stages. SO for the first part of the renovation, we are going to stick with the upstairs, which is the living space.

Here's the one minute video walk through:

I always the time capsule part of walking through unchanged older homes. There are gems and there are the things that you can't wait to demolish. For example, this fireplace made of sandstone (which is what our house is sitting on). It's gem but what to do with it? Leave it as is? Frame it out in walnut slats and add bookshelves (there are NO shelves in this house anywhere, and books to me are the soul of a house, I need to see books). I'm working on this and will let you know where we end up.

This! Found this at the side of the house in the bushes. A good luck charm I think since Chris (my husband) is a writer.

The mural above the wet bar. So popular in the 1960s. This space will be a pantry with shelving, so maybe I'll keep it ...

The intercom system. Super cool functionally, but it's not staying.

THIS light fixture! Cleaning it up and adding new glass shades but LOVE IT - will maybe make this the entry pendant. RAD.

Original wall oven! O'Keefe & Merritt - who?

I thought this was the Cadillac logo!

OK - saving the best for last. In the powder room - THIS FAUCET. My heart melts. It's so unexpected and sweet. We will polish the brass and use in new powder for sure. A darling homage.

That's it for now - next up will be FLOORPLANS and figuring out the layouts.

My favorite part of any job! The puzzle.

Thanks for reading!

Lucie
